Hey there!

I am a Ph.D. student in the Digital Media Program and a researcher in the Augmented Environments Lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology. My research focuses on the technological affordances of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality to uncover the emergent conventions of these new mediums. In my work, I pursue mixed methods research that involves both interpretive and analytical approaches. With a background in Computer Graphics Technology, I develop interactive VR and AR experiences and examine the user experience to investigate the impact on user perception and behavior in these systems.

I am also passionate about causes related to climate change, animal conservation, and environmental education.

If you'd like to get in contact with me, I can be reached at jpark896@gatech.edu

Georgia Institute of Technology
Doctoral Research Assistant
Aug 2021 - Present
  • Designed and developed webXR environments to spatially communicate ideas presented in the book, ‘Reality Media’, using 3D and web development tools
  • Work independently and in collaboration with the team, providing technical advice and communicating design suggestions for better VR experiences
  • Executed mixed-method user research, collecting quantitative (user log, survey) and qualitative (semi-structured interview, user-generated drawing) data and iterated the design of the 3D spaces based on the insights obtained from data analysis
Graduate Teaching Assistant
Fall 2020, Fall 2021, Spring 2023
  • Assisted students with creating a WebXR experience in a grad-level course ‘Mixed Reality Experience Design’ (Spring 2023~)
  • Administered lab sections for ‘Introduction to Computational Media’ teaching web development tools (Fall 2020, Fall 2021)
Instructor
Spring 2021
  • Conducted lectures for a studio-based course, ‘Principles of Visual Design’ that provides students with the basic skills needed to create and analyze digital visual images with Adobe Creative Suites
